New York – NY – To introduce the Amazonian culture to the world as a matrix available to post modernity is the focus of the First International Collective of Amazonian Artist in New York, USA, from November 07 trough December 18 2009. The First Collective is produced by Dirson Costa Institute of Amazonian Art and Culture and The Amazon Art and Imaginary Gallery, GAIA, both from Manaus, Amazon, Brazil.
The exhibit presents 8 artists from 5 different ethnic groups from Amazonia, they are Duhigó (ethnic group: Tukano); Dhiani Pa'saro (ethnic group: Wanano); Iwiri-ki (ethnic group: Apurinã); Sãnipã (ethnic group: Apurinã); Tóo Xac Wa (ethnic group: Óro Náo); Yúpuri (ethnic group: Tukano); Tchanpan (ethnic group: Kokama) e Kawena (ethnic group: Kokama) in which each artist expresses his poetic vision through 100 pieces using acrylic on canvas techniques and marquetry.
Braids and Colors of Amazonia and I am Amazonia are the themes for the Collective. The first one is held at Ward Nasse Gallery, 178 Prince street, Soho, from November 7 trough December 08, the second one is at The Brazilian Endowment for the Art – BEA Art Hall Gallery, 240 East, 52nd street, from November 13 trough December 18.
This project represents a further stage in our task of establishing for the Amazon Region a cultural policy with distinctive elements, better suited to our lifestyle, in which Amazonia is no longer merely an exotic, immense, diverse and coveted region, but rather presents itself as the cultural matrix of the post modern world. For this reason, we have spared no effort in disseminating the expression of our people and in publicizing our culture so the world may come to know the Amazonia that pulses in our souls. It is our desire to enchant people with our Amozon-ness, little known or unrevealed says the President-director of Dirson Costa Institute of Amazonian Art and Culture.
For
the Administrative Director of GAIA Gallery, Frank Ara Barros, the artists from
Amazonia are receiving the right recognition of the exigent New York demand.
“The work of our artists are getting the attention of consumers around the
world, our thematic is on the appreciation of this unique region in the planet.
Some of the artists such as Duhigo and Dhiani Pa’saro have artwork overseas,
for example the acrylic on canvas “Pote” by Duhigo, bought by the president of
the Soccer International Federation Joseph Blater.
Curator
The Amazonian artist, Arnaldo Garcez, signs the First International Collective of Amazonian Artists. The construction of these drawings and paintings is impressive in color, composition and aesthetic balance, representing nature, everyday objects, rites and myths. The asymmetrical and symmetrical braiding sharpens our poetic perception of the richness of the forms where every ethnic group has its own characteristics and differentiating property, affirms Arnaldo Garcez.
Ethos Amazonida
As part of the program of the First International Collective of Amazonian Artists, the Amazonian philosopher Freida de Souza Bittencourt will give a lecture on “ I’m Amazonia! Our Ethos, Our Soul.” at The Brazilian Endowment for the Arts – BEA Art Hall Gallery, November 18, 2009. For the philosopher this concept is part of all the work of art in the exhibit and is indispensable to propose the world the Amazon as a main source cultural for the postmodern world. “Amazonian man, at one with his ethos, holder of knowledge that goes back centuries, can offer the world a return to behavior long forgotten by postmodern man: the dialogue with life, with the nature. The Amazonian ethos, then, is a catalyst for our potentialities, both expressed and as yet unexpressed, only present in their fullness within our rich imaginary” states Freida.
