The United Nations Stabilization
Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH)
confirms that a Uruguayan CASA-212 military aircraft carrying eleven (11)
crew and passengers from Uruguay and Jordan went down in the area of Fonds-Verrettes
approximately 45km from Port-au-Prince.
The aircraft was on a regular reconnaissance
flight. The crash site has been secured by the MINUSTAH police. The United
Nations confirms that all eleven crew members and passengers aboard were
killed. The bodies will be transported back to Port-au-Prince.
The Secretary-General extends his
heartfelt condolences to the family members, friends and colleagues of
these brave peacekeepers who lost their lives in the service of peace.
